In the depths of a Central New York winter, Astrid will finally be able to ditch her two struggling space heaters for a more efficient and cozy alternative. This little stove keeps our tiny home warm and dry through the coldest winter nights, burns off nearly any excess moisture inside, and can provide heat (and even a small surface to cook on) while we are off grid.
First look at our new Cubic Mini Wood Stove.
Uncovering the old LP fridge vent.
Fridge vent cap removed, time to drill out rivets and remove the old sealant.
Checking the fit of our aluminum patch, the flue will come through a smaller hole than the original fridge vent.
We used a laser pointer to help locate the hole placement and shape on our curved interior skin.
Drilling holes and tin snips along the dotted line to cut a hole in our new patch.
Brackets to secure the double walled flue to our roof.
Flue cap and a rubber boot to finish off the exterior installation. Heat resistant sealant and Vulkem will keep this water tight.
Dry fit of the flue and stove. We used a metal computer monitor stand to get the stove up to our desired height and creates storage below.
Initial burn outside to finish curing the paint and drive off nasty fumes before burning inside.
First burn inside Astrid. A cement skim coat and stainless steel heat shields that we fabricated from scrap metal Astrid's previous owner left behind completed the interior install.
